The Borough of Glassboro is the latest municipality to establish a safe exchange zone where Internet strangers can meet in person to exchange money and goods sold online.
Recognizing that an increasing number of people are accessing online classified advertisements and conducting exchanges in their homes, officials decided to designate an area in the municipal parking lot as a safe exchange zone.
The Glassboro Police Department is proud to announce our Safe Transaction Zone is up an running! This zone has been set up in the rear of the public municipal lot near the Code Enforcement Building. The area is outlined with a green parking space as well as a green sign indicating the “Safe Transaction Zone”. The parking lot is well-lit, and space is monitored by a state-of-the-art surveillance system. Although the spot is not actively monitored, we will be able to review any transactions that occur in the designated area.
Please be aware, members of the Glassboro Police Department will not participate in transactions or act as witnesses. Our employees are not available for legal advice or allowed to settle disagreements between parties involved in transactions occurring in our facilities. However, if there are general questions, or safety concerns arise during a transaction, please do not hesitate to call 856-881-1500 or 9-1-1.
Transactions involving weapons, drugs, or drug paraphernalia are barred from the zone, as well as they are illegal.
The transaction zone is available for use 24 hours a day, however, citizens are strongly encouraged to use the zone during daylight hours.
