ABOUT:

The “National Public Safety Alliance for Individuals with Disabilities” AKA “AID” is a no cost, voluntary service that is open to all persons with a disability who live, work, play or attend school in the United States. The AID collaborative was created to help police officers to assist our residents who may need extra assistance in the event of an emergency by making sure that those first on the scene have vital information at their fingertips regarding a members specific physical or mental impairment, emergency contact information, physical description, current photograph and any known calming method.

DEFINITIONS:

Disability - is very broadly defined for purposes of AID. Disabilities are often defined as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limit one or more major life activity due to a physical and/or intellectual disability. Examples of special needs include, but are not limited to:

1. Mental health issues

2. Mobility issues (wheelchairs, power chairs, walkers)

3. Dementia or Alzheimer’s disease

4. Cognitive impairments

5. Autism

6. Oxygen dependency

7. Hearing, vision, or speech deficits

8. Post-traumatic stress disorder

9. Dialysis dependent

10. Paralysis / stroke patients

11. Developmental / intellectual disabilities

12. Life-threatening allergies

REGISTRATION

An individual can join by themselves, or they can be submitted by a caretaker, family member or loved one. If someone is submitting for an adult other than themselves, they must have that person’s permission or be the legal guardian of the individual they are submitting.

If an individual wishes to submit to AID and does not have a computer, smart phone, or tablet, the following alternatives exist please contact one of our AID Liaisons who can assist with your submission.
