Police Explorers

The Glassboro Police Explorers are comprised of young men and women, 14 years old (and completed 8th grade) to 20 years of age, who are residents of Glassboro and beyond. Part of the Boy Scouts of America “Learning for Life” program, Police Exploring provides educational training for young adults on the purposes, mission, and objectives of law enforcement. The program provides career orientation experiences, leadership opportunities, and community service activities. The primary goals of the program are to help young adults choose a career path within law enforcement and to challenge them to become responsible citizens of their communities and the nation.

Our Explorers continually train in police related scenarios including various types of car stops, domestic violence response, crime scene investigation and active shooter response. Officers from our own Department as well as personnel from Gloucester County Communications, Gloucester County SWAT Team, Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, the New Jersey State Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have all volunteered their time and expertise to educate these motivated young adults.

Locally, our Explorers can be seen working downtown events on Rowan Blvd acting as an additional set of eyes on the community, a point of contact for information or even assisting with locating lost items or children. They take part in our annual Memorial Day Parade, have been asked to assist at Police Academy graduations and also work police department events such as “Paws for the Cause”.

Because policing means taking pride and giving back to one’s community, our Explorers are often seen volunteering their time to assist other community organizations. The have assisted with bicycle rodeos and bike registrations, participated in disaster and active shooter drills across the County, and cleaned, laid mulch and planted flowers at the police memorial honoring Cpl. Steve Levy in Washington Twp.

Our department is always looking for dedicated, hard working and reliable young men and women to join our Post. If you would like to apply to our Post, please download the Explorer Application from the link to the right. Applications can be dropped off at the police station and given to any officer.
